FAQ

Q. How long do our residents live at Chosen Vision?
A. Our intention is to house each resident for the rest of their lives. Our first CV resident moved into our Grand Ledge home in 2001 and still resides in our care. We can take care of each resident as long as their health stays within our Resident Admissions Criteria.

Q. What is the range of disabilities within a Chosen Vision home?
A. We currently have residents with Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Mental Retardation and Autism. We are also fully capable of handling patients with wheelchair needs and currently have two such individuals in our care.

Q. How is the operation funded?
A. Operating needs are met from residents, SSI, CMH, and Food Stamp funds. These funds comprise approximately 58% of operating needs. The remaining needs are met from pledged donation, private donations, corporate foundations, various fundraisers, and our annual banquet.

Q. How do our residents interact with each other?
A. Our residents live together as a family. Chosen Vision strives to be a communal environment where our girls eat, play, worship, and even go on vacations together. We are focused on creating a community within our homes where the residents learn to constantly work together and learn from each other.

Q. How do we integrate Christianity in our resident's life?
A. Our residents attend church services, hold weekly bible studies, pray for each other before each meal and participate in daily devotionals with staff members.

Q. What is the difference between a private group home like Chosen Vision and a government-run home?
A. Chosen Vision is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that must raise funds to operate. Government-run facilities are exclusively funded under government budgets and grants. Chosen Vision also works to accept residents that may not receive State assistance outside of SSI. Government homes run through State resident placement and is usually based on availability with a priority to the disabled that are the wards of the State.

Q. Will you have a group home for men in the near future?
A. Currently, Chosen Vision operates a group home for developmentally disabled women. In addition, our waiting list contains a higher population of women than men. Therefore, our efforts are targeted at expanding our services to the female population. Nevertheless, as the demand for male placement grows, our priorities will be re-evaluated.
